Bonita Sharma is a Public Health and Nutrition Activist with a Bachelor degree in Public Health and a Master degree in Nutrition. Sharma is the Co-founder and CEO of Social Changemakers and Innovators (SOCHAI), a youth-led non-profit organization based in Nepal. She had received global recognition for her innovative approaches and tools to improve health and nutritional outcomes among women, children and girls. The 'Nutribeads', 'Redcycle' and 'Anti-Anemia' are the wearable health and nutrition education tools designed by Ms. Sharma which earned her global recognition including Unicef's Asia Pacific Youth Innovative Award. Her team's flagship community-based youth volunteers' model and adolescent nutrition program and has been widely appreciated by the Gates Foundation, CNBC, UNESCO and UNDP. The tools and interventions designed by her have also been incorporated in the Nepal government's nutrition training manual for Multi-sectoral Nutrition Plan (MSNP) facilitators as well as in the reference curriculum (grade 4 to 12) for adolescents.
Sharma was listed in the BBC's 100 most influential women of the world in 2019. She was nominated as a member of Provincial Nutrition and Food Security Steering Committee (NFSSC) of Bagmati Province, Government of Nepal from 2019-2023. She has been recently nominated as a member of the Advisory Group for the Lancet Commission on Evidence-Based Implementation in Global Health (2023-2024). Ms. Sharma has cofounded Youth Led SRHR Advocacy Nepal (YoSHAN) in 2018 through which she also advocates to establish SRHR as a human right.
